Chapter 4

They had decided that Killa would find a way to contact Badar and ask him to come with Caliel as soon as possible. Caden was reluctant to say anything to the two pregnant drakon brothers, though Aeri had been covertly called to the destroyed office and notified of the new development. The phoenix had decided to tell Kale, mentioning something about his back and a torture device wrongly called “couch.” Caden was not so sure about telling Dale, but Killa thought that the alpha would probably come clean as soon as Dale landed those puppy eyes on him. The Wolf Original was completely smitten with his mate, and no matter the alpha posturing or any “I know best” bullshit Caden repeated, it was obvious that the much smaller and very pregnant man was the boss in that relationship.

Keen had fallen asleep during all the talks, seemingly content to sit in Killa’s arms. Not on the couch. They had once tried to put him there to rest better, only to be stopped by heart-clenching whimpers. The innocence and trust after everything made Killa feel small and unworthy. The small, pitiful whimpers the wolf made even in his sleep had made the three Originals start making plans to go hunt his damned family that moment.

Caden was noticeably rigid, his posture denoting he was still berating himself for not knowing about the situation sooner. Killa was trying to calm his wolfie’s nightmares while devising new ways of prolonging a torture session, and Aeri was constantly and quite creepily playing with a knife. His expression announced to all that somebody was going to die quite soon. They hashed out all in only half an hour and hurried to their respective mates, Killa taking his small wolfie directly to the rooms he had been given. He was reluctant to take Keen to the wolf’s own bedroom, reluctant to let him out of his arms, so he reasoned that putting him down would only wake up the small beautiful man that obviously needed his rest. He knew Keen had some broken ribs, but those had already begun to knit even as he continued to sleep in Killa’s arms and bed. He looked good draped over the drasher’s hard and colder body. He felt even better.

They were still in the same position now, Killa on his back, Keen draped over him, small hands clutched in his shirt with the occasional whimper that immediately calmed down when Killa slowly rubbed that skinny back. He needed to eat more. He frowned, not liking his suspicion that his wolfie had been probably half starved on top of regularly beaten. How had Killa managed to end up in this position? He was now responsible for the smaller man, like it or not. He suspected he’d find his nuts in a jar if he did something to hurt Keen again, with how many people watched over the redhead. Not that his wolfie noticed.

Hell, Keen was supposed to be just a trick, a way to release tension and pass some time while calming his inner beast.
